Blood flukes are parasitic flatworms responsible for a highly significant group of infections in humans termed schistosomiasis. The male and female blood flukes are unique among other flatworms because they are dioecious with distinct sexual dimorphism. As an example of this, the male is considerably bigger then the female. Blood fluke reproduction is very straightforward. The male surrounds the female and encloses her with his gynacophoric canal for the entire lives of the adult worms. This is how they reproduce sexually. Thousands of eggs are released over time, which are typically excreted from their host through urine or feces to fresh water. Then the larvae use a snail as a host, before reaching the grand prize, a mammal.
