Horseshoe Crab
A horseshoe crab has ten walking legs under their hard exoskeleton shell. Along with their hard shell, a horseshoe crab has a long pointed tail called the telson. The horseshoe crabs body is split up into three sections: the head, the abdomen, and the telson. The name “horseshoe crab” comes from the round shape of its head. The head is round and in a U-shape like a horses foot. During the late spring and early summer, adult horseshoe crabs go to the east and gulf coast, where the males await for the females for breeding. When the females arrive they release pheromones to attract the males. The females dig the eggs into the shore where the male fertilize them.
